Telangana State Formation Day:

Telangana, which was carved out of the erstwhile Andhra Pradesh under the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act, 2014, becoming the 29th state of the Indian Union on June 2, 2014, after nearly 57 years of struggle.

  • The Telangana movement gained fresh momentum in 2001 under Kalvakuntla Chandrashekar Rao (KCR), who formed the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (now BRS) and led relentless campaigns for separate statehood. KCR eventually became the first Chief Minister of the newly formed state, assuming office on 2 June 2014, the exact day the region was officially separated from Andhra Pradesh.
  • The occasion marks the culmination of a long-standing movement for separate statehood and serves as a celebration of Telangana’s unique identity, cultural heritage, and developmental achievements.

In 2025–26, Telangana’s Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) is estimated to be Rs 17.82 lakh crore.

  • Telangana’s GSDP accounts for 5% of the national GDP.
  • Telangana’s GSDP grew at 10.7% in 2025-26, outpacing the national GDP growth rate of 8% by a meaningful margin.
  • Telangana, as a newly formed state, started its journey in 2014-15 with a per capita income of Rs 1,24,104. Now, the state’s per capita income of Rs 4,18,931 is nearly 1.9 times the national average of Rs 2,19,575 — reflecting a state that has consistently performed above its weight class economically.
  • Telangana is urbanising rapidly and the urban population is projected to reach 53.8 per cent by 2031.
  • The state’s export performance is stellar, ranking seventh in the country with merchandise exports reaching Rs 1.61 lakh crore, driven largely by the aerospace sector, which accounts for nearly 30 per cent of exports.
  • Telangana’s IT exports have touched Rs 3.13 lakh crore, supporting over 9.39 lakh jobs.

The Telangana Socio-Economic Outlook 2026, tabled in the legislature alongside the budget, opens with a vision: a $3 trillion GSDP economy by 2047.
